Intimate Wedding in NC Mountains
A family farm in Jefferson, North Carolina was the setting for our penultimate event of the season. As with most laidback, privately hosted events that we are a part of, this one had no formal coordinator. When this is the case, the value of choosing great photographers, DJs, caterers and other vendors that can improvise and work on the fly is huge. This couple found AGB Productions through the Knot and Weddingwire, which is how most of our couples find out about us. What was different about the planning process this time around, was the order in which they selected vendors for their wedding.
Almost any wedding professional will probably admit that your first priority when booking vendors for your wedding is the venue. Dates at desirable venues in our state book fast, especially in months like September, October and early November. Second on the list is more debatable. If you’re going for a more DIY celebration, I would say that your entertainment is extremely important. I’m sure our photographer friends are shaking their heads! Most of the time, photographers do come first, but this time, we were the first to be reserved. This provided us with a great opportunity to recommend a close friend and very talented photographer, Lindsay Vaughn of Wild Onyx Photography. The couple was looking for a photographer who would also be an Appalachian State student, and Lindsay fit the bill perfectly. As you can see from the results, her editing style embellished the scenery very well.
From a DJ’s perspective, the day went off without a hitch. There was no processional music planned, but the mother of the bride, realizing the potential awkwardness of the situation, asked us to play something as she was walking down to the ceremony area. Pachelbel’s Canon in D was what I pulled out, and I think it worked! Goes to show that it is always a good idea to have something ready to spin throughout the day, no matter what is planned (or not planned). We had an issue with our wireless receiver during the reception, so we did have to revert to a wired microphone for toasts and speeches. It was a simple fix back at the shop, but that is why we alway bring an extra microphone with an extra long cable.
The family danced the night away and I think we were all pleasantly surprised at how well the day flowed despite the absence of a day-of coordinator.
