A Carolina Blue Wedding at The Upchurch
The Upchurch is located just off I-540, minutes from the RDU Airport. Here are a few tips when planning a wedding at The Upchurch
The floor plan should position as few guests in between the DJ and the dance floor as possible.
The house is a great place for cocktail hour, but expect guests to mingle outside too if the weather is nice.
Uplighting looks incredible in the conservatory.
Early in the planning process, the soon-to-be newlyweds Skylar & Devin Williams showed me that their Carolina blue themed wedding would be anything but cookie cutter. The special couple wanted to ensure that all 130 guests felt engaged and immersed in the celebration. They envisioned a romantic, heartfelt day, telling the story of their relationship, and featuring several tear-jerking moments (yes, DJs get emotional too!) 🥲
Skylar & Devin met at UNC. They are passionate about Tar Heel basketball, which made for an exciting planning phase, where we were brainstorming ideas about how we could showcase this (without turning their celebration into a full-on UNC pep rally). In addition to basketball, music runs deep in Skylar & Devin’s families. Skylar’s grandfather, Jim Wheeler, was a recording artist back in the day. Skylar wanted to include one of his recordings for a special moment - more on that next! Skylar & Devin wanted everyone to feel included. Skylar even added a surprise for her mom - a special mother/daughter dance following her dance with her dad, so that she wouldn't feel left out.
Get ready… This moment was everything. During one of our planning calls, Skylar brought up, in passing, that her deceased grandfather was a musician who had recorded an album many decades ago. As a Raleigh wedding DJ focused on creating deeply personalized wedding experiences, I immediately knew this could become one of the most meaningful moments of their day.
After meeting Skylar in a parking lot, (for what probably looked like a drug deal), and spending some time digitizing and re-mastering her grandfather’s songs, they were ready to see the light of day again. Skylar chose the perfect time to feature one of her grandfather’s songs; his rendition of “Jailhouse Rock” during a medley that we prepared for her father/daughter dance. I’m not crying, you are!
Before the dances, Skylar & Devin wanted to prepare their guests for the unforgettable celebration that would follow. There was only one logical way to do that: Introduce each member of the bridal party into the reception UNC basketball style! Just like a UNC home basketball game, I introduced each bridesmaid and groomsmen, including their height, and giving a fun fact about them, all while doing my best to emulate the cadence of the iconic voice of UNC men's basketball, Woody Durham.
Aside from facilitating that special moment, AGB Productions provided complete wedding DJ services throughout The Upchurch, as well as up lighting in the main reception area, Carolina blue, of course! Through a carefully curated soundtrack, seamless transitions, and expert crowd reading, the night unfolded exactly as they envisioned, leaving guests raving about the unforgettable experience.
For couples searching for a Raleigh wedding DJ who goes beyond just playing music, moments like these are what it’s all about. A great wedding isn’t just heard—it’s felt, remembered, and talked about long after the night ends.
And this one? Guests are still talking about it.
